What next??????

I woke up today in such a bad mood. I was on such a high the whole weekend from the race; I didn't think I would ever come down! But I woke up this morning, and bam, there it was back again. The "funk" as I like to call it.

I think part of my problem stemmed from the "where do I go now" question? All summer and into fall I've been training for this 5K. And now it's over. It's almost like the day after Christmas. You have such anticipation, so much to prepare for it, and then bam. It's all over. Sad face!

I definitely need a new goal, something new to train for. So I think I may have found it, thanks to my Twitter friend Paige! December 5th in Charleston, my favorite city, will be the Reindeer Run. It's a 5K course that goes through downtown Charleston and ends at one of my favorite breweries, Southend Brewery. Here are some photos from the race website:

Since I have already completed a 5k, this one be all about time. I'd love to run this under 30. I tweeted about this earlier today, and got some great advice about how to start working on time. I feel better knowing that i have a game plan and a new goal to work towards! I hope M can do this with me as well. It's so nice to have a companion to talk to about this, and that way I don't drive others crazy talking about something that frankly, they probably don't care about. haha

The only thing I dread is the probability of more treadmill runs because of the cooler weather and days getting dark sooner. But the good news is that it will force me back into the gym, where I need to work more on my strength training. I have SADLY neglected this area. Starting on this tonight actually.

Happy (??) Monday everyone :) And thanks for the congratulatory comments!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ps My "black toenail" is hanging on by a thread still...I know ya'll all wanted to know about that! HA!!!

I have been following your blog for some time now, I am a Rock Hill girl (hubby's hometown) but also live and work in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. Anways, I just started running myself and am inspired by your progress and love reading your updates to help keep motivated- and UGH I am having the toe nail thing with my left big toe- bought new running shoes with a larger toe box so it seems to be helping... Take care

Found your blog through Marisa's and just had to check in with you. I read that you and Marisa ran your first 5K's on Saturday. How cool. SO DID I! I started running for the first time ever in the spring and my goal was a 5K. Never thought I'd get there so soon, but I did it, bad weather and all.

You and Marisa are both inspirations for me to keep going and I too had the same "what next" feeling. I didn't want to go to bed on Saturday night because I was afraid that magical feeling would be gone, but instead, I woke up Sunday morning wondering what I could do next.

I agree that another 5K would be perfect and try to beat our times. That's what I'm shooting for. of course, I've got an extra challenge of having foot/ankle surgery in three weeks and will not be able to run for three or maybe four months. So it's definitely going to be a challenge for me.

The Reindeer Run sounds great! Definitely will be following your blog. Love it!
