I have *gasp* toilet bowl stains. I know. Gross! And to make matters worse, it's the guest bathroom! I wouldn't care as much if it were mine (ok I would) I'm obsessive about cleaning my toilets. I clean them constsantly. So where is this hideous stain coming from? And why all of a sudden? I would post a picture, but no one wants to see that on a Monday morning while downing their coffee and bagel.
The stains are where the water runs down the sides of the bowls, and only one side. Weird huh? I have scrubbed and scrubbed. I've used bleach cleaner. I've dropped a bleach tablet in the back of the toilet. I've used Comet. Nothing is working. It's so embarrassing, and I'm afraid when company comes over they'll think I haven't cleaned my toilets. This cannot be. I will buy a new toilet before that happens! haha
Please, help a sister out! Suggestions??

Two suggestions for you. First Tang! Yes believe it our not it works. Grab some regular orange tang, pour in about a cup of it, swirl around and let stand for about 10 minutes. Scrub and flush. Works wonders.
If that doesn't do it grab some CLR, and try that.
Believe it or not the Tang works great in dishwashers and washing machines too. Just run a cupful through a cycle. Don't know what's in it that makes it work so well, but does. Good luck!!
I think I've heard that you can use a can of Coke too...
But you can always look for some sort of industrial toilet bowl cleaner... We've used some before & it got the basement toilet sparking clean. (cant remember the name - but it was not your normal "clorox" or anything - it was labeled specifically for stains)
It sounds like hard water stains. I have them too. If Coke works, I'll laugh my ass off. Last I checked Tang was no longer being sold?
Run out and get some CLR! That stuff kills all. LOL Good luck!
OMG if Tang and Coke work I am SO GLAD i don't drink them!!! Let me know what works please!!! Gotta know!
Is Tang still sold? must google it
I'm thinking Tang must work because of the acidity? And Coke because of the carbonation? I don't know. But I know that CLR would be a great suggestion. Good luck!!
PS - I left you a little something on my blog! :)
I found this on Google.
Remove Rust From Toilet
To make your toilet bowl clean again, start with a dry bowl so water won’t dilute the cleaner. To tackle difficult rust stains, skip your discount-store toilet bowl cleaner and head to the hardware store for a product containing diluted hydrochloric acid (also listed on product labels as hydrogen chloride, HCL or muriatic acid). This is a common active ingredient in such brands as The Works Toilet Bowl Cleaner and Santeen De-Limer & Toilet Bowl Cleaner (see Buyer’s Guide). And make sure you don’t use a bleach-containing product on rust—it will set the stain.
Be sure to use a toilet brush with stiff nylon bristles in a plastic base. Those old wire brushes scratch the bowl. Once the bowl surface becomes scratched or worn, stain removal becomes next to impossible.
Two cautions when cleaning with diluted hydrochloric acid. First, if you use an in-tank cleaner that contains bleach, remove it and flush multiple times to remove bleach residue. A combination of bleach-containing and acid-containing products (toilet cleaners) produces deadly vapors.
Second caution: Scrub slowly because droplets that splatter outside the bowl can harm carpet, tile, vinyl and your skin. Keep a rag and a bucket of water handy to wipe up spatters. Same goes for setting the bottle down on these surfaces—don’t. And make sure you flush and rinse the bowl immediately.
Hmmm, I hadn't heard that Tang was no longer being sold. I haven't looked for it in a long time, so if it is not at Walmart or your local store, I would say try the CLR. That stuff worked great on my shower.
Thanks guys! GREAT suggestions, I will try them all if it means getting rid of these stains! YUCK!
Dani, do you have a profile or blog? When I click on your link, it says no profile found. Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions! :)
Hiya,
My blog is divulgewithdani.blogspot.com
CLR - works like a champ with little to no effort. Smells funky - but it doesn't linger.
clr .....again
If you have a brick handy, that will do the trick...just use the brick like a scrub brush.
Have you tried a Mr. Clean magic eraser? Those things work on everything. Maybe you could attach it to the end of a toilet brush??
