I wasn't going to post again this week, but recent events\have caused me to want to do so. Yesterday, word got out that one of South Carolina's star wide receivers Kenny McKinley had passed away. Shortly thereafter, it became known that he had taken his own life. This news literally took my breath away. I never knew Kenny personally, but I was always a big fan of his. He was well known for his great personality, sweet smile, good grades and team leadership. He broke all kind of records at South Carolina, and led the SEC conference in receptions. He was drafted last year to the Denver Broncos, and due to injuries he was currently sidelined. He was most recently seen at the SC vs GA game here in Columbia 2 weekends ago, and many fans recall talking to him and taking pictures with him. In every picture he is smiling.
But obviously there was something going on behind the smile. What would make a 23 year old kid who seemed so happy want to take his own life? We may never know. But for now, my heart breaks for his family.
RIP #11. You will never be forgotten by Gamecock Nation.
