Facebook makes it official

A long time bachelor friend of mine changed his facebook relationship status on Monday. I laughed and teased him about it. About 20 minutes later, I got a facebook message. "You have a relationship request. Would you like to confirm your relationship with The Cub?" Oh the irony! How funny, that facebook can define this for you.

Up until recently, only my close friends knew I was dating someone. And now, all thanks to facebook, everyone (in facebook land) knows. All because of that little status update that now says "I am in a relationship."

I won't lie. It's a little weird. It's almost like announcing an engagement. I'm not sure how to handle it yet. And not that I think we will break up, but what if we do? I see it happen all the time. It's bad enough to happen in real life. But then having it announced on facebook is like putting up a billboard that you broke up. How embarrassing. "Carolina Girl is a loser and no longer in a relationship." I mean, is that necessary?

Some of my skittishness of facebook comes from The Ex Mr. P. He was always very cautious of his facebook. Never posted pics of us together. Never mentioned me one time in his status updates in the year we dated. And definitely never updated his relationship status. He even had his tagged photos hidden. These were all serious red flags, but I ignored it. I chalked it up to him being a private person. Honestly, it just made me hate facebook for even having that "relationship" status.

So now, I finally have someone who is excited about telling the world about us. Someone who is proud to show me off to his friends and family. Dating The Cub has been a whole new world for me! It's definitely different.

What are your thoughts on facebook and relationship status updates? Weird, no?

The best laid plans...

A couple months ago my friend M and I decided to train for the Cooper River Bridge Run in Charleston. Except for me...that never happened. I ran one 5K but that was it. I never was able to find the time to train for it like I should have with all the overtime I put in the last few months. I ran a few times but nothing more than a 2-3 miles. But I at least thought I would be able to half of it. But that's not going to happen now either.

Sunday I start feeling all sneezy and wheezy. I blamed it on allergies (all the trees are blooming down South). By Tuesday I knew what was coming on. A full blown cold. I truly think I have run myself into the ground. All the stress and working overtime has just blown my immune system out of the water. And now I sit here tonight, my chest on FIRE and a sore throat from hell. To top all that off, my sinuses are blocked and I have fever. Yea, fun.

There is NO way I can do this Saturday. And I feel so bad because my friend M has trained SO hard for this! She is so excited, and I want to at least be there for her to see her finish. I told her I would go and at least walk it, IF my fever is gone. We were supposed to leave tomorrow afternoon. I'm going to the Doctor in the morning to see if I can get some good meds.

Bumm-er.

Charleston, you never let me down!

What a whirlwind the past week has been! The conference was a success I'm happy to say, and I don't have to worry about it again for another whole year! It was a TON of work, but I always feel so proud when it's over and successful. It's my baby if you will. A Big Thank You to the Wild Dunes!

Here I am handing out door prizes during one of our breaks...we had some good ones! One person won a 2 night stay at the Wild Dunes Resort. The Doubletree in downtown Charleston also donated a 1 night stay.

Here I am doing what I do best: working and drinking coffee...

Since our Wednesday evening social event fell on St. Patrick's Day, we hired an Irish local band. I found them by calling Tommy Condon's, a popular local Irish Pub in Charleston (and one of my personal favorite places). They were great, and the crowd loved it!

We had hoped to have this event oceanfront, but the weather did not cooperate. So we moved it indoors. We still had a great time! Our attendees feasted on a Low Country Boil and enjoyed an open bar. We even had green beer!

My birthday fell on the day after the conference this year, and so my mom came down and we stayed an extra night in Charleston. We walked the Cooper River Bridge, ate some fabulous seafood, walked on the beach at the Isle of Palms, and the weather was DEVINE. Charleston, you totally redeemed yourself from the rain earlier in the week!

It was a postcard kind of day!

Me with my favorite redhead! (Yes I'm wearing the same shirt, don't judge...) ;)

Beautifun sunset on Shem Creek! This was our view while feasting on delicious shrimp, scallops and oysters. I highly recommend dining at The Wreck if ever in Mt. Pleasant. It looks like a dump on the outside, but the food is amazing. It's off the beaten path, so if you go, get directions.

It was a great end to the week, and a great birthday! I love having my birthday in March. St. Patrick's Day and the beginning of Spring and beautiful weather here in the Carolinas.

Hope you all are having a great week! This pic below pretty much represents how the rest of my week is going to go :)

My biggest event of the year

My job revolves around one huge main event every year. It's our Annual Conference in Charleston, and it's next week. I do other things throughout the year, but this is The Biggie. It involves planning the entire thing from start to finish and the details are overwhelming. I have been working pretty much close to 60 hours a week for the last 2 weeks. I'm exhausted. I'm cranky. I'm in SERIOUS need of a vacation. Wish me luck that all goes well!

After that, it's the Charleston Bridge Run! I am not ready. But oh well, it will still be fun!

Last but not least, yay for Daylight Savings Time! That is sure to put a pep in everyone's step next week.

See ya on the flip side....

Riverbank Zoo 5K and Nike+ Review!

This weekend, M and I ran our 3rd race together, the Riverbank Zoo 5K. We had a great time, even though it was SO COLD! We almost froze our butts off waiting for it to start, which seemed to take forever. This race was fun, and took us around the perimeter of the zoo and Botanical Gardens. We also ran some trails down by the river and some serious hills in the middle! Almost everyone had to walk this part. But as soon as I got to the top, I kicked it back into gear and took off again. My final time was pretty bad (38:36, whatevs) but I still felt great that I did it. And especially considering I haven't really ran in 2 weeks. M finished in 35 something! A PR for her!

Post race:

Gotta love our red frost bitten faces and matted hair!

And now, say hello to my new leetle friend: The Nike +

The Nike + is a 2 part sensory device: one part plugs into your Ipod and the other goes into your shoe (certain Nike shoes have a place for it I believe, but I just bought a little pouch that attaches to my shoe.) It tracks your distance, start time, end time, pace, and calories. But here is my favorite part: you can tell it what distance you want to run and a little voice will come in over your music every so often telling you how far you've got left to go. This is SO MOTIVATING. For me, it's all mental. And knowing how far you have left and how far you've gone is so nice when you are exhausted and feel like quitting. For me it's that extra little push that I need at the end. There is nothing better than hearing that voice come over your earbuds and say "Congratulations! You've completed your goal of a 5K"

You can also download your workouts on the nike website, and track your mileage. Love this feature as well! It tells you when you have hit a PR as well. You can also link into to other Nike+ users and join challenges, etc. The Nike + cost around $35 I think, and I got mine at Best Buy. The shoe attachment holder was an extra $10.

All in all I give the Nike + a big thumbs up! Thanks to my Twitter friend CE for the suggestion! He only told me about it AGES ago, and I finally broke down and bought it.

And the plot thickens...

So apparently PA is coming back indefinitely to the Palmetto State. And he will be here within 3 weeks. And he's made it very clear that he's expecting to hang out with me at the St. Patty's Festival here in town.

The Cub has invited me to go with him to an engagement party this weekend. He has also asked me to to go the beach with him in June for several days.

All I'm saying is this: A single girl's got to have a backup plan at all times, right?? ;)

"Here's my philosophy on dating. It's important to have somebody that can make you laugh, somebody you can trust, somebody that, y'know, turns you on... And it's really, really important that these three people don't know each other."

A Date with The Cub

Carrie: "Shouldn't we be dating men our own age?"
Miranda: "Good luck finding one. There are no available men in their 30's in New York, Giuliani had them removed along with the homeless."
- Sex and the City

The Cub (as I like to jokingly call him) and I went out again this weekend. He asked me to pick the restaurant, and I asked him if he liked sushi. He paused and said yes. And so I recommended a local place here in town. When we arrived, I ordered my favorite spicy tuna rolls and he ordered....rice and shrimp. After the waitress left, I said "I thought you said you liked sushi?" He said "I've only had it once, but I knew you liked it so I said yes." Sweet, no? And then I promptly made him try some of mine. With chopsticks. Hilarious. He pretended to like it, but I could tell by his face he hated it. Not to worry...I told him we could swing through the McDonald's drive through afterwards. ;)
