For the past few nights I have been going to bed and then laying there wide awake for HOURS! And it's not as if I'm not tired, because last night I almost fell asleep on the couch. And normally I am a CHAMPION at falling asleep as soon as my head hits the pillow. So hopefully this is just a phase that will pass. If I can't sleep tonight then I am going to have to go buy some Tylenol PM or something.
Do any of you ever have this problem? If so, how do you function the next day? I am an 8 hour of sleep a night girl (always have been) and if I don't get my sleep I have a VERY hard time concentrating at work the next day. It's amazing how much sleep affects us. Even right now I'm at my desk and about to fall asleep in my coffee cup.

Just read about something I'd want to try. I'm the same way, hit the pillow and start snoring most nights. But they suggested "paradoxical intention". Lay there with your eyes closed and try to stay awake. Actively try staying awake with eyes closed, supposed to help you drop.
Girl I hear ya. I struggle with sleeping, well I guess not so much the falling asleep part but actually falling into a deep sleep. Instead I'll fall asleep and dream all night and wake up feeling like I never got a minute of sleep. Incredibly exhausting. My dr. suggested melatonin half an hour before bed. Have you tried reading a book before bed? That usually puts me to sleep. lol.
I use melantonin and it really helps.
I had that problem last night....I got up and cleaned. :(
I have struggled with this for YEARS! Sometimes I dealt with it with Benadryl or Tylenol PM. Sometimes I drink chamomile tea at night to help me settle in. I sometimes will try to read (think knocks me out a lot). But honestly, I've noticed that when I'm getting a lot of good exercise in during the day, like when I'm running a lot, I don't seem to have so much of a problem. The exception to that is if I'm getting the exercise in late, like when I go skating at night, then I'm all charged up and can't get to sleep.
Also, try not to dwell on it. If I think about not sleeping, I WON'T SLEEP for sure.
Hope that helps. :)
Hey girl! In reference to your comment about sking- I look like the michelin man when I go sking too, lol! It really depends on the weather where you are going sking. You warm up fast so layer and then you can remove extra clothes if needed. I ended up wearing nothing under my ski pants and just a lined running shirt. I wore a water proof ski jacket at night but didn't need it during the day. I couldn't find my ski gloves before we left so I just wore my running gloves and they were fine. I didn't fall though so if you think you might fall then make sure you have waterproof gloves. Have fun!!!!
Hey there! I dont know about you but Tylenol PM makes me extremely groggy the next morning/day- which is actually worse than just being overly tired. I saw my dr. about it & took ambien for a short period, since that got me back on track, she recommended I take melatonin each night. Seems to work well for me, combined with a reading :) Get some rest girlie!
I've tried melatonin, with some luck. I've also tried Simply Sleep. I don't like using Tylenol PM or any other pain-related med, if there is no pain, ya know? Usually, one Simply Sleep and I'm good to go.
I go through this on occasion. I have to drink lots of cokes the next day. After a couple days in a row I resort to tylenol Pm.
I hope you start getting some sleep.
ug... I am NOT good at sleeping. Things that disturb my sleep: full moon, too much light from any source, garbage truck/snow plow, etc., too much dinner, not enough dinner, too much caffein, stress at work. The only thing that works for me is lots of exercise. If I can't sleep, I usually just read.
I have been having the same problem lately...just sit and stare at the ceiling all night! I have also been using Tylenol PM, but I notice that I have to use it a couple of hours prior to falling asleep. I am a little stressed right now- could this be the problem?
Reading....puts me right out.
Here's another one that usually works for me: tell yourself if you don't fall asleep in 5-10 minutes you'll h ave to get up and do something that needs to be done around the house. Something awful like folding the mound of laundry on your couch (you do have one, don't you?). Or how about reorganizing your pantry? Think about it and all the steps it takes: get up, go to pantry, take out canned goods, move cereal, etc.
Tell yourself you're going to have to do that if you continue to lay there awake. Works for me because the thought of doing it makes me feel exhausted and just thinking about the steps helps get my mind out of the circles it keeps spinning (why I'm usually lying awake at night).
