The Ultimate Pizza Sauce. And Football.

I'm not sure if my life is just really boring lately or what...but I have another recipe to share with y'all today. I love to make my own pasta or pizza sauces. The great thing about them is usually they are pretty simple to make - add tomato sauce/paste/a few seasonings and bam you're done. Weekend before last I was hankering for pizza and I didn't feel like ordering one so I did some googling for a pizza sauce recipe and I found this one called the Ultimate Pizza Sauce. I've already made three batches of this stuff.

The Ultimate Pizza Sauce.

Ingredients

2 tablespoons olive oil
1 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup onions, chopped
1/4 cup celery, chopped
1 garlic cloves, minced
1 (8 ounce) cans tomato sauce
1 (6 ounce) cans tomato paste
2 tablespoons grated parmesan cheese
1 teaspoon dried basil
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 small bay leaves
1 teaspoon fennel seeds

Directions

In a large skillet, melt butter with the oil. Add the onion, celery and garlic and saute until soft and transparent. Add tomato sauce and tomato paste and stir until smooth. Add remaining ingredients and bring to slow simmer. Simmer for 30-60 minutes (or not at all depending on your taste and time frame). Remove the bay leaf and spread the sauce on your prepared pizza dough.

If you are making more than one pizza, I recommend doubling this recipe. I just made a medium sized pizza with fresh mozzarella cheese and fresh basil. Very simple but very good!

Sorry for the crappy iphone pics.

My friend Crist graciously asked me to go to the football game with her family again this past weekend. We always have a good time...can't you tell?
Go Gamecocks! Way to beat those Hogs!

Pizza anyone?

Wowza, excellent timing! I had a list of things to search for & a decent tomato sauce recipe was one of those things! The last recipe I tried ended up super acidic tasting & no amount of futzing made it any better. Your recipe sounds spot on though - I'll give it a go this weekend!
